Vic Vac’s “On the Prowl”

Here’s the original caption for this episode of the Vic Vac Halloween Sunday magazine covers (October 30, 1966): “Haunted houses are frightening enough at any time but especially so on Halloween, the spookiest night of the year when every conceivable kind of ghost and goblin is on the prowl. That is the theme of today’s cover by Vic Vac (Victor Vaccarezza), the Globe-Democrat’s chief artist.” I like the four black cats in the painting, and the face on the tree is a haunting touch. There’s a couple of owls around, and the kids with their hands over the cop’s mouth seem to be suppressing his scream! I hope you are enjoying this series, there are almost no examples of Vic Vac’s paintings on the Internet other than the Catblog. Boo!
